Electrical Engineering and Design
Most site problems start on paper. MEC’s engineers work alongside the same team that builds and installs the systems, so design decisions are shaped by how the project actually gets delivered. Early technical decisions, practical designs, and fewer surprises when commissioning starts.

Value Engineering
MEC has identified significant project savings through value engineering without compromising performance or compliance outcomes.
Value engineering that doesn’t create commissioning pain later
On one project we replaced a full BMS scope with a tablet-based PLC and independent controls system. The outcome was simpler to maintain and delivered over $200,000 saved in BMS works.
Every value engineering proposal is reviewed against commissioning and compliance requirements before anything is finalised.
Design Deliverables
From concept through to construction, we produce the full range of electrical design documentation your project needs.
Single line, schematic
& layout drawings
Shop drawings for switchboards and control systems
Condition reports &
AS-built drawings
Recommissioning for plant changes
All developed to AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439, and AS/NZS 3008.
Shop Drawing Review
Common commissioning problems are visible in the drawings before anyone gets to site. MEC reviews shop drawings and consultant documentation to find coordination and interface issues early, when they are straightforward to resolve rather than expensive to fix.

FAQs
Can you do value engineering without creating problems at commissioning?
Value engineering is reviewed against commissioning and compliance requirements by the same team that will build and commission the system. Changes are documented and agreed before manufacture.
What stage of the project should we involve your engineering team?
Specification or tender stage where possible. That’s where value engineering opportunities exist and where coordination issues are cheapest to resolve
Do you produce as-built documentation as part of your engineering scope?
Yes. AS-built drawings reflecting the final installed configuration are a standard deliverable. Documentation requirements are confirmed during the scope phase.
What standards do your designs comply with?
AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules), AS/NZS 61439 (Switchboard standards), and AS/NZS 3008 (Cable selection), plus project-specific or authority requirements confirmed at the time of scope.
Can you review and comment on consultant drawings before manufacture?
Yes. Shop drawing review is recommended as a standard step before manufacture. It’s the most practical point to catch and resolve coordination issues.
Do you provide condition reports for existing electrical systems?
Yes, as a standalone service or as part of a broader upgrade or maintenance scope.
