MSSB and Commercial Switchboards
MEC designs, builds, tests, and commissions switchboards in-house. One team across the full scope means fewer handoffs, fewer interface issues, and a cleaner path to commissioning. We manufacture custom switchboards including Mechanical Services Switchboards (MSSB) & Motor Control Centres (MCC) for HVAC, mechanical plant, and BMS integration.

Where Switchboards Usually Go Wrong
Most problems aren’t a “switchboard problem”. They’re a scope and interface problem. Common failure points we design around include:
Late scope gaps discovered after manufacture
Controls handled as separate scopes; commissioning turns into fault finding
Documentation that doesn’t match what’s installed
Testing pushed to site when the program is already tight
We make the technical calls early so you’re not paying for rework later.

I just had a site visit to Telstra Flemington and wanted to commend your team on the Electrical works. It was impressive. Very neat and complete. Thanks for taking the care and helping us deliver this job to a high standard and on-time.

Built and Tested In-House
MEC tests every switchboard in-house and verifies to AS/NZS 61439 before it leaves the workshop. Issues are found and fixed in a controlled environment, not on a live project.
You receive:
- Test records
- Build documentation
- Wiring schematics
- AS/NZS 61439 verification
Switchboard Upgrades
When plant changes or capacity needs grow, a full switchboard replacement isn’t always necessary. MEC assesses, redesigns, rebuilds, and recommissions in-house, so the upgrade is handled by the same team who understands both the board and what it needs to do when it’s back online.
FAQs
Where are MEC switchboards used?
Across commercial buildings, industrial facilities, infrastructure projects, utilities, and processing environments. A significant part of the scope is HVAC and mechanical services, supplying MSSB’s for fan and pump control, air handling units, cooling towers, chillers, boilers and BMS integration on commercial construction projects.
What testing is carried out before delivery?
All boards go through a structured in-house test process before leaving the workshop. Functional testing of control circuits and protection devices, insulation resistance and continuity checks, and verification against AS/NZS 61439 & the project specification and wiring schematics. Results are documented and issued with the board.
What documentation do I receive with the switchboard?
Test records, build documentation, wiring schematics, and AS/NZS 61439 sign-off. Additional documentation requirements are confirmed during the scope phase.
What is your typical lead time from order confirmation?
Lead times vary with complexity and are confirmed at the time of quote. Manufacturing is scheduled around project program dates. If your timeline is critical, raise it early and we’ll confirm what’s achievable.
Can you accommodate value engineering after the board has been specified?
Yes. We can review an existing specification and identify where the design can be adjusted without compromising performance or compliance. Changes are documented and agreed before manufacture begins.
Can you price from incomplete documentation?
Yes. Send what you’ve got. We’ll clarify gaps early so the quote reflects the real scope.
Tell us your board spec and timeline.
We’ll confirm lead time and scope.
